                                       DRIVE

Bass tab by Dave Silverstone

This is the tab for the "funk" version of Drive, as performed live. It is
almost identical notewise to the album version, although the tempo and the
number of times each note is played is somewhat different. Here it is:

Note: on the E-Em parts of the chorus and refrain, you can use 2nd fret on
the D instead of 12th on E. However, it sounds a bit better, especially if
you audiably slide from 9 to 12 before hitting it and then again on the way
down.

Opening (and post-bridge):

G-|--------------------4--4--------
D-|-----------------s5---5-5-4-2---
A-|---------2-0-2-3--------------5-(Repeat 2x)
E-|-0-0-2-3------------------------

Verse:
The walls are built up, stone by stone...

G-|---------------------------- ----------------------------
D-|----------------------4-2-0- (Repeat 3x, then) ---------------------5-4-2-0
A-|---------2-0-2-3---3-------- ---------2-0-2-3---3--------
E-|-0-0-2-3---------3---------- -0-0-2-3---------3----------

Chorus:
And the train conductor says, take a break Driver 8

G-|-------------------------------------------------
D-|(0)----------------------------------------------
A-|----3-3-2/3-5-5----3-3-2/3-5-5----3-3-2/3-5--3-2-
E-|-------------------------------------------------

But it's still a ways away...

G-|------------------------------
D-|------------------------------
A-|---------3--------------3----- (Repeat as many times as neccesaray)
E-|-0-0-2-3---3-2-0--0-2-3---3-2-

Break:
A way to shield the hated heat...
(Play in a very countrified manor)

    Am C G D(real fast)
G-|-------------------------------------4/5---------------------
D-|-------------------------------5-5/7-----7-5-------9p7-5-----
A-|-----/3-5-7-5-3--3-3/5--3-3/5----------------5-5/7-------7-5-
E-|-5-5---------------------------------------------------------

   Am C G D
G-|-----------------------------------4/5-------------------
D-|-----------------------------5-5/7-----7-5---------------
A-|---/3-5-7-5-3--3-3/5--3-3/5-----------------5-5/7--5-5/7-
E-|-5-------------------------------------------------------(Opening riff)

End on open E.

Backing vocals: If you can't pick these out, you must be deaf. There's the
"Driver 8" over the "Take a break Driver 8" part, and the echoing of "But
it's still a ways away" over the chorus. Very easy to work in.

 Em Am G G/F#
The walls are built up, stone by stone,
 Em Am G G/F#
The fields divided one by one.
 Em Am
And the train conductor says
       G G/F# Em Am
"Take a break driver 8, driver 8 take a break

 D C D
And the train conductor says

       C Em Em/F# Em/G Em/F# Em Em/F# Em/G Em/F#

(D)------0-------0------0--------0--
(A) ---2-------2------2-------2-----
(E) -0-------2------3------2--------

I saw a treehouse on the outskirts of the farm.
The power lines have floaters so the airplanes won't get snagged.
Bells are ringing through the town again,
Children look up, all they hear is sky-blue, bells ringing

And the train conductor says
"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but we're still a ways away"

 Am C
Way to seal the hated heat.
 G D
Way to put myself to sleep.
 Am C
Way to shield the hated heat.
 G D/Dsus4
Way to put myself, my children to sleep.

He piloted this song in a plane like that one.
She is selling faith on the Go Tell crusade.
Locomotive 8, Southern Crescent, hear the bells ring again.
Field to weed is lookin' thin

And the train conductor says
"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We've been on this shift too long."
And the train conductor says
"Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but we're still a ways away"
